You Snooze You Lose!

I was reading Experience Life Magazine and came across advice to “Drink water, eat good food, rest, relax, connect.” The hardest thing for me to do is rest. I always feel like I am wasting valuable time when I sleep. There are goals that I could be working towards but instead I have the nerve to sleep. Older adults always give advice to slow down and get proper rest. Instead of listening to the older generation we often ignore them and do our own thing. “Team No Sleep!” “No Sleep Zone!” “No Sleep Gang!” We say it but is it healthy not to get the right amount of sleep? I don’t know if it is just me but I have my zombie moments randomly throughout my day. You may catch me yawning in the gym trying to shake off the sleepiness or yearning for caffeine trying to replace my much needed energy. Older adults may have a point..I mean they have lived longer than me and have experienced this stage of life. It is hard to allow our bodies and minds to rest for 7-8 hours but we must do it!

We workout hard and need time for our bodies to recover. We work all day and need time for our minds to relax. I totally understand what it means to be ambitious and focused but we have to slow down so that we don’t harm ourselves. You don’t want to be one of those people that faint from exhaustion or worse have bags under your eyes. HaHa.  I am being a total hypocrite because as I write this post it’s close to 2 A.M. and I have my alarm set for 6 A.M. I vow to do better because I don’t want to be stressed and tired while trying to accomplish my goals! I surely don’t want to be tempted to reach for unhealthy snacks because every magazine or blog that I’ve read says that poor eating comes with the lack of sleep. I went on Webmd.com to find out that University of Chicago researchers said that within 4 days of insufficient sleep our bodies ability to process insulin goes awry. When our bodies don’t respond properly to insulin it has trouble processing fats and ends up storing them. I totally did not know that we could gain weight if we did not sleep the right amount of hours! Oh no.. it just got serious. I can take a bag or two but a pound or two..No way..No way Jose! I’m about to go to sleep right now! Right this second! If you guys need more info you can email me! HaHa..but so serious..Peace Out!
